All about ... Cornucopia

It's a beautiful and sunny morning in the first day of March and I really love this weather: cold and sunny. Most of the people that live in Europe love the summer and are always waiting for some hot days. But I come from a hot (really hot) city and I don't miss those melting days at all. I love the spring and I'm sure I will have another great one here in Dublin.

Last Saturday I went to town alone because Matteo was playing. I'm not used to making things alone but it was pretty good. I bought some stuff and decided to have lunch at Cornucopia. I really can't explain exactly why we haven't been there yet after more than 1 year living in Dublin... But it always time to start doing things that we never did before!

Cornucopia is a vegetarian restaurant located in the heart of Dublin city center. And it's always full. Now I can understand the reason: the food is great, the staff is kind and the place is nice. I didn't know about the options I had, so I asked a lot of food and dessert. I was excited because they have a lot of vegan options and I knew I should try their vegan cheese cake (my dear French friend Aurelia had told me about that when we were together in London and she couldn't believe that we had never gone there!). I had a noodle spaghetti with vegetables, couscous and bean salad. And a big slice of a blueberry cheese cake. All with an organic cola. Yes, I spent a lot too, but it was worth it.

It is really good to know all the options we have to eat around and I just added Cornucopia to my small vegan list.

Cornucopia can be so great and so terrible. It really depends on the day.

I can't recommend the garlic potatoes enough!

The price is always always ridiculous though....

I think that all the places to eat in Dublin depend on the day. And the thing that makes me sad is the price. It is really expensive to eat out in Dublin.

I love going to places where I have a ton of options. But I always feel so overwhelmed. As a vegan, you get sort of used to not having options when eating out. At least, if you live in a non-so-vegan-friendly place like I do.

what Robb said.

Burkie, one of the chefs, has been vegan for as long as I can remember and used to play in a great hardcore band called Cheapskate who were like the Irish Seein' Red or Drop Dead or something. The Vegan Chocolate cake is the greatest thing on earth.

I love Cornucopia! :) glad you enjoyed it there. It's not cheap but compared to other places, it's very good value. BTW if you get the main meal without the two salads I think it's under €10 for the meal. The desserts are the most expensive bit and the juices too - definitely think €4 is too much for a glass of juice, a bag of organic carrots is not even €1.50...hmm! But I don't mind paying that much for the food.
Have you gone to Blazing Salads much? Almost everything there is vegan. Including lots of desserts and cookies! Salad, noodles, rice, lots of veggies... it's fab. There is no sit down area though as far as I could see!

I think there used to be a second Blazing Salads that had a sit down cafe kind of vibe in Powerscourt Townhouse, but it's long gone.

The one on Drury St is just a deli, but the tofu pizza is great.

It's great to know that Burkie was into hardcore before :)

Hi Aoife, thanks for your comment! I will come back to Cornucopia other times and I'm sure I can spend less :) And when I talk about the price I think that things in Dublin are expensive in general (comparing to the UK and also a lot of other European cities) but I don't mind spending to eat good vegan food. I went to Blazing Salads some times, but I like hot food and the thing about they having everything cold is not that good for me but I still need to blog about them because they really have good vegan options.

And if anyone has more tips, I'll be happy to go to check the places in Dublin that offer vegan options and to write about them.

I agree about Blazing Salads - I would go there more often if I could sit down and have hot food there! Their vegan burgers are so yum...

But I really agree that Ireland is SO expensive for food in general, it really is. I spend a fortune on food, it's crazy!
